Blood sugar

Glucose sugar rises in the blood, or as known as blood sugar when eating, and high blood sugar glucose stimulates cells in the pancreas known as beta cells, to respond to these cells by secreting the hormone insulin Insulin, which in turn stimulates the various cells of the body to allow glucose sugar to enter into it to be used in energy production, and in the event that the amount of glucose sugar in the blood exceeds the need of the body cells, these excess amounts are stored in the liver with the help of insulin to be used when Need, morbidity occurs For the natural ratios of glucose in the blood when it is not the secretion of the hormone insulin in sufficient quantity, or when they become resistant to the effect of the body 's cells secreted insulin.

Natural blood sugar

The normal level of sugar in the blood is known by performing a number of different tests , as follows:

Diabetic hemoglobin test
Glycated hemoglobin (A1C) test is known as a cumulative sugar test, and this test is based on calculating the percentage of glucose associated with the hemoglobin protein responsible for the transport of oxygen in red blood cells during the past three months, where the glucose link to hemoglobin increases as the proportion of Blood glucose, and the test results are interpreted as follows:

  • Normal level: If the result is less than 5.7%.
  • Introductions of diabetes: (Prediabetes) when the result ranges between 5.7% and 6.4%
  • Diabetes: When the result is 6.5% or more.
Random blood sugar test
Random blood sugar test can be done during any hour of the day regardless of the time of eating the last meal, and blood sugar is considered normal when the result of this test is less than 200 mg / dl, and if the result is 200 Mg / dL or more, this may indicate a person has diabetes.

Fasting sugar test
Fasting blood sugar test is based on measuring the level of blood sugar in the morning after fasting the night period, and the results of the test are interpreted as follows:

  • Normal level: If the result is less than 100 mg / dl.
  • Introductions to diabetes: if the result ranges from 100 to 125 mg / dL.
  • Diabetes: If the result is 126 mg / dL or more, it should be noted that the patient is diagnosed with diabetes after the test is repeated on two separate occasions and these results are achieved.
Oral glucose tolerance test
The person is required to fast an entire night before taking an oral glucose tolerance test, then the blood sugar level is checked, and the person is asked to drink a solution containing sugar, and after that the blood sugar is checked Over a period of two hours, and then the test results are interpreted as follows:
  • Normal level: If the result is less than 140 mg / dL.
  • Introductions of diabetes: if the result ranges from 140 to 199 mg / dL.
  • Diabetes: if the result is 200 mg / dL or more.

Diabetes target for diabetics

The target percentage of blood sugar in diabetics depends on many different factors, such as age and health status. The following table shows the general blood sugar ratios that are generally targeted in diabetics:
Patient class Fasting sugar mg / dL Before meal, mg / dl Before bedtime mg / dl Cumulative sugar%
Children under the age of six         80-180    100-180   110-200 Less than 8.5
Children between the ages of six and twelve    80-180      90-180   100-180 Less than 8.0

Children between the ages of thirteen and nineteen
   70-150      90-130   90-150 Less than 7.5
People aged 20 and over   Less than 100      70-130    100-140 Less than 7.0

Women
pregnant
   60-99       60-99          - Less than 6.0

Low blood sugar

Low blood sugar (Hypoglycemia) occurs when the amount of sugar in the blood is less than 70 mg / dl, and low blood sugar is not considered a disease in itself but rather evidence of another health problem, and low blood sugar is often associated with treating a disease Diabetes, it may have a side effect of the drugs used to treat diabetes, but it may be linked to some other health conditions such as fever , and because blood sugar is the main source of energy production in the body, low blood sugar should be treated immediately, through Eating sugar-rich foods or drinks, or using Biting drugs, as must determine the cause of which has led to a decline in the level of sugar to prevent it from happening again.

There are some symptoms that may appear on the person when low blood sugar level, including the following:

  • arrhythmia.
  • Feeling tired general fatigue.
  • Pallor of the skin.
  • Feeling anxious and irritable.
  • Trembling.
  • Sweating .
  • Feeling hungry.
