Saturated fat
Saturated fat is also known as fatty acid, and saturated fatty acid. In English, it is called Saturated Fatty Acid , it is a fatty acid in which all hydrogen carbon atoms are composed; meaning that it contains the largest number of hydrogen you can carry, and all the bonds between the carbon atoms inside the chain are mono bonds.
Saturated fat properties
- It maintains its hardness at room temperature.
- It can not be hydrogenated.
- It does not dissolve in water.
Saturated fat formula
A carbon seed is saturated with three hydrogen atoms, then a refined chain made of intermediate carbon atoms, and a carboxyl group known as the acidic portion (COOH) at the end of the chain.
Note: All saturated fatty acids are the same, but they differ in terms of chain length, for example: saturated citric acid contains eighteen carbon atoms.
Benefits of eating saturated fat
- Increases the level of energy in the body. It is involved in the manufacture and construction of hormones and some other compounds within the body.
- Gives a feeling of body satiety after eating it.
- Digestion slows down, so food stays in the stomach for a longer period.
The harmful effects of eating saturated fats
When you eat too much saturated fat, it causes the following: Increases the level of harmful cholesterol in the blood, causing heart disease and atherosclerosis. It leads to obesity that causes many problems such as: diabetes, arthritis and bone infections.
